Altered Chipboard Art

What's 4-1/4" x 3-1/2", made of chipboard, and has a round edge on one end? Our "ATC Workshop & Swap Challenge" item for September! What would you do with these small pieces of plain chipboard?  If you take a minute and look at them with a creative mind, they're actually just a blank slate waiting for some attention. Take a look at the amazing and creative results from our extremely talented group of artists . . .

This month's Challenger, Terri Durst, was in a "spooky" frame of mind
when creating her Challenge item.  Using papers covered with skulls & crossbones,
she embellished her chipboard pieces with all things Halloween, including
a stamped metal tag with the magic date!

Charlotte Fern responded to the Challenge with a vintage twist.
With coordinating papers, trims, and embellishments, her chipboard pieces
create a "cute" banner with images from days gone by.

Deb Schinzel loves her Gelli Art and shows off her talents with this
colorful and whimsical banner for her granddaughter. With each panel
decorated in an assortment of paint colors, she added finishing
touches of cute animal cut-outs and a cord for easy hanging.

Kristen Johnston shows her school spirit with this colorful and sparkly banner
for her daughters. Kristen cut her chipboard to size to use as a base for each
letter of the school's team, then added chain at each end for hanging.  To
finish, she embellished her banner with metal charms representing the name
of the team, Knights.

With fireworks on the brain, Lylia Hagerty created her banner with a patriotic
feel to celebrate the 4th of July.  With coordinating papers in red, white, and
blue, she added trims and "dangles" as finishing touches.  For easy hanging, she
added ribbon that stretches from end to end.

Lylia couldn't stop with just one . . . Challenge item that is!  Taking a different
direction, for her second project she's created a handmade book full of excitement
using all types of papers, ephemera, and other items from her "stash".  To keep
everything together, she stitched each page together with tied twines.

In response to the Challenge, Charmaine Conway created a pocket-sized
vintage family photo album.  Using papers from Marion Smith Designs,
Graphic 45, and old-time photos, she added flaps, pockets, and more . . . just
like you'd find in a full sized album.  To finish, book rings were added to keep each
page in place, with ribbons tied to each as finishing touches.

Any member of the group can "Challenge" the others with creating something special and unique.  The only "rule" is that anyone who participates creates one Challenge Item for "Show & Tell" using everyday mixed media materials . . . embellishments, paints, papers, stencils . . . whatever strikes their fancy! Without any themes or other guidelines, the ultimate goal is to showcase each artist's personality through the type(s) of embellishments, decorations, or techniques used.
