A New Project . . . A New Artist!

It's happened again!  The CraftFusion Family is once again growing with the addition of another new artist and talented instructor to the team . . . Negin Kayhanfar!  Negin is a recent immigrant to the United States from her home country of Iran and has a degree and strong background in cinema.  She's worked on and assisted in the production of several short files and documentaries since her high school and early college years.  Even through she has a love for cinema, she also has a strong passion for creating art in the form of Art Dolls.  Not your ordinary art dolls, but wonderful creatures complete with fabled backgrounds and histories.  Using mental images of friends and family members as muses for her dolls, Negin creates each one with love and close attention to small details.  Bodies are constructed from wire armatures, heads and limbs shaped by hand with paper mache, and clothes and accessories sewn by hand from discarded clothing from the person each doll is designed after.  If you'd like to create your own unique and mystical art dolls, make your reservations now to join Negin in her first Workshop and help us extend her a warm welcome to our Family!

Once upon a time, there was a doll maker who wished everyday that his dolls could come to life and go out into the world.  So the story begins and you're invited to take part in making these wishes come true.  Allow your imagination to come alive as you let yourself create what you dream as you design individual characters of your loved ones . . . not exactly what they really look like, but instead of how you might imagine them in your mind.  Join Negin in this new and exciting two part Workshop as she shares the art of Doll Making with you.  Make your reservations early because SEATING IS LIMITED TO 8 students only, so call now to save your space because this exciting Workshop is sure to sell out fast!

In Part 1, you'll create your doll's armature, or body, as well as his or her head using paper mache techniques.  In Part 2, you'll finish your doll with clothes you'll make from fabric or recycled clothing, as well as any embellishments, such as zippers, broken jewelry pieces, or charms, that you might want to add to make your doll truly unique.  The sky's the limit!  If you don't have anything, not to worry . . . there will be many things available that you'll be able to choose from!  Your finished doll will make the perfect memento for yourself or gift for a special loved one or friend.

Supplies to Bring:  Basic Craft Kit (BCK), including craft or nonstick sheet; hot glue gun; X-acto knife; round nose and flat nose pliers; fabric or recycled clothing pieces; a simple sewing set for hand sewing your doll's clothes (needle, thread, etc.); and any special embellishments you may want to add.  All other materials and supplies will be provided.

Polly Hendrickson Comes to CraftFusion!

We're excited to announce that the CraftFusion family continues to grow by leaps and bounds as another new artist and talented instructor comes on board . . . Polly Hendrickson of Polly Hendrickson Jewelry Design!  Originally from Tucson, Polly, who also holds a degree in Interior Design from the University of Arizona (UofA), now resides in Chandler where she creates her beautiful jewelry designs from various materials including sterling silver, copper, bronze, brass, and sheet metal.  She first fell in love with creating jewelry after taking a bracelet and earring class at a local bead store, and since then has traveled all over the United Sates to continue taking classes.  She's studied under Connie Fox in San Diego, CA, learning new techniques in Wire Working and Metal Smithing, as well as Susan Lenart Kazmer for techniques in Metal Smithing and Found Objects.  In 2009, she made the decision to quit her full time job to pursue her dream of becoming a jewelry designer and artist, and hasn't looked back or stopped since.  If you'd like to create beautiful jewelry designs, make your reservations now to spend a fun and creative evening with Polly in her first Workshop here at CraftFusion and help us extend her a warm welcome to our Family!

"Resin Paper Wire Form Jewelry" Workshop
with Polly Hendrickson
Thursday, November 21st ~ 6:00pm-9:00pm
Cost: $45.00 (includes holiday snacks & goodies)

Do you love jewelry, but just aren't sure exactly how to make your own?  This is the perfect Workshop for you!  Join Polly as she shares the secrets to making your own charms with this fun and easy technique using ICE Resin created by the fabulous jeweler and mixed media artist, Susan Lenart Kazmer.  You'll learn many uses of ICE Resin and make several charms from steel wire formed into your choice of shapes ready to take home with you.  You'll begin with paper, coat it with resin, attach wire that you've formed to the paper, and when dry, just like magic, you'll have a unique charm to hang from a necklace, bracelet, or earrings.  Polly will have a variety of papers available for you to choose from, but if you'd like to make your charms even more special, bring a favorite paper of something you love, or maybe tissue paper for a more transparent look or an old letter . . . the possibilities are endless!  Maybe even consider adding a favorite word to make your charms truly extraordinary and one-of-a-kind!  Call early to make your reservations, because with seating limited to only 10 students, you won't want to miss out on this fun and creative Workshop!
