What can you do with a "chunk" of 2x4? Artist Trading Blocks, better known as ATBs or Chunkies, are one of the newest trends in the mixed media art world and now's your chance to join Charmaine in this new and exciting Workshop to check out what all the buzz is about.  While the basic dimensions of each ATB is the same as an ATC, it's far from flat, but instead actually a 3-D block.  In this Workshop, you'll let your imagination soar as you turn your blank block into a unique "Steampunk Gentleman", incorporating copper metal, fun plumbing fixtures from the hardware store, paints, inks, and so much more.  You'll also learn techniques for embossing and coloring metal and different painting methods that you'll want to use in many of your future project.  Call early to make your reservations because with seating limited to only 8 students, this fun and creative Workshop is sure to fill quickly!
Supplies to Bring:  Basic Craft Kit (BCK), including craft sheet, heat gun, scissors, E6000 Adhesive (for metal), and your favorite craft adhesive (The Ultimate works well).  All other supplies and materials will be provided. Optional Supplies:  If you have a favorite color Alcohol Ink other than black, or a special color acrylic paint you'd like to use, please feel free to bring them along.

ATCs for February . . .

Last night was the February "ATC Workshop & Swap", and you could really see the talent flow!  It was the first month of our new dual-theme format, with "Vintage Valentines" and "Mardi Gras Celebration", and everyone created outstanding cards . . . as usual!  Each artist shared their unique styles amid plenty of "ooohs" and "aaahs".

And after the Swap, the fun just kept on going!  Sharon Van Dussen offered last month to share a favorite technique of hers, working with colored pencils and mineral spirits to give your art work the look of using Copic markers.  After a quick rundown and how-to on the technique, she even provided everyone with materials for a hands-on demo!  Thank you Sharon for sharing this great . . . yet simple & inexpensive . . . technique.

Overall, it was another fun evening overflowing with artistic talent.  It's always amazing to see what everyone comes up with!

For those who missed last night's workshop, make your plans now to join in the fun next month.  Mark your calendars & save the date . . . Thursday, March 14th . . . when the monthly themes will be "Your Favorite Color (mono- chromatic)" or "Black & White".  Start “thinking big in a small way" and we'll see you then at this fun NO COST workshop.  From experienced to novice . . . you’ll definitely want to see what it’s all about for yourself!  Just create 12 ATCs using the monthly themes . . . all the same or each one different . . . then come and share with others in a true workshop atmosphere. Or just come and see what's going on with other artists, ask questions, share information, have fun, and become inspired!

And as an added bonus, March is our first "Challenge"!  Challenges are voluntary, and the Challenge for this month will be Artist Trading Blocks (ATBs), also known as "Chunkies".  Create 1 ATB or Chunkie for "Show & Tell" and show off your talents in an exciting 3-D format!  ATBs are sized 2-1/2"x3-1/2"x1-1/2" (a "mini" 2x4 piece of scrap lumber) or 2-1/2"x3-1/2"x3/4".  Chunkies are 4"x4".  Both formats are embellished over-the-top, so be creative and have fun!  Stop in the store if you'd like to see examples of either size or call for more information.  We hope you'll join us!
